The PD-277 is a direct-drive turntable with automatic start and cut functions, a brushless DC servo motor, a 1.8kg die-cast aluminum platter with undercut felt mat, and a statically-balanced straight tone arm. Luxman's turntables were manufactured by Micro-Seiki, one of the premier Japanese turntable manufacturers.
I purchased this turntable in 1980 and enjoyed using it for 20+ years, although I also recorded a lot of music on cassettes and listened to the tapes frequently. Once CDs came along in the mid-80s, I found myself increasingly listening to CDs due to the convenience. The turntable has mostly sat idle since the early 2000s. All this to say that despite its age, this is a relatively "low mileage" turntable. It still works and sounds great.
The tonearm is fitted with a Stanton 681EEE Mk IIs, which was (and still is) a highly regarded professional-grade moving-iron cartridge. This particular cartridge was a popular choice back in the day for quality control in pressing plants due to its excellent performance.
