Position Overview
The Structural Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating shop fabrication operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to quality standards. This role oversees welders and fitters, manages material flow and subcontracted work, and drives continuous improvement in productivity, efficiency, and accountability.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong fabrication knowledge and the ability to enforce standards while supporting the crew.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise daily fabrication operations, including welders and fitters
• Schedule manpower and assign work based on the master production schedule
• Review upcoming work and adjust labor, sequencing, and resources as needed
• Order materials and ensure availability to support fabrication schedules
• Coordinate and manage subcontracted fabrication work
• Build, modify, and maintain fabrication fixtures and jigs to improve efficiency and consistency
• Monitor quality, productivity, and safety throughout the department
• Enforce shop procedures, safety rules, and work standards
• Hold employees accountable for performance, attendance, quality, and safety
• Troubleshoot fabrication issues and work with management or engineering to resolve them
• Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements
• Communicate shop status, delays, and needs clearly to management
• Managing subcontractors or outside fabrication vendors
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in structural steel or heavy fabrication
• Previous supervisory, lead, or foreman experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of welding processes and structural fabrication methods
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and fabrication documents
• Experience with scheduling labor, coordinating materials, and meeting production deadlines
• Proven ability to lead crews and enforce accountability
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Willingness to be hands-on when needed
• Microsoft Office Suite – basic working knowledge (Outlook, Excel, Word)

the pay range is up for negotiation with the right candidate. The hours are 5-3:30 Monday-Friday typically, but they are responsible for both shifts with a lead on both shifts so it would be up to them to manage the department and their time accordingly if that makes sense. Historically this has been an hourly position.
