1974 Sunburst Strat with a nitro finish. Vintage sound!
$400 CASH - or TRADE for Traynor YCV combo; or Fender Princeton tube amp; or Vox AC15.
This project was built around a 1974 Japanese Matsumoku Sen Ash strat body with the original STC bridge and trem assembly.
I added an aftermarket neck that I lightly reliced in a nitro finish. Features a rosewood board over maple with medium frets and Gotoh tuners. 25.5 inch scale. **Please note, the neck is not a Fender, despite the logo. The tremelo plate I made from Zebrawood veneers.
The pickups are all Alnico V with fiber bobbins. The neck pickup is wound with 42gauge formvar wire (6.1k dc ohms); the middle is also reverse wound with 42g formvar (6.1k); and the bridge pickup is wound with 42 g enamel wire (6.0k).
The electronics entail CTS 250k pots, a Sprague orange drop tone cap, an Oak Grigsby 5-way switch; and a Switchtcraft 1/4" input jack.
The Guitar has a serious vibe with shimmering highs and bell like tones. You can hear a music sample at https://soundcloud.com/cs-guitars/little-wing-improv
Overall, this is a terrific sounding and playing guitar built from parts I had lying around my shop. Although you could opt to retrofit the neck with a larger 70s headstock (to match the year of the body), this one works well, so I left it on.
